ACTION/2015: LIGHT THE WAY: is to Mark Promulgation of SDGs

Hyderabad Sep. 23: On 23rd September 2015 over 1000 children and adults participated in the Light the Way event in Hyderabad at Ravindra Bharathi Auditorium.  Prior to it around 7.00am ACTION 2015 coalition CSO partners and 100 children participated in a Heritage walk voicing the SDG goals from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Statue at Tank Bund till Ravindra Bharathi, Auditorium.  Mr. Pradeep Artist cum popular T.V Anchor flagged off the rally and participated in Heritage walk followed by band from Don Bosco Navajeevan, Home for street involved children and Young at Risk, Hyderabad.

‘Light Way Event’ at Ravidra Bharathi was welcomed by Ms. Alka Singh of Save the Children organization in her key note brief address explained about the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) and elucidated  about ACTION 2015 event for which we have gathered together. Prior to inaugural talk, well prepared cultural programme was put up by the children on the theme of the occasion.

The Chief Guest Mr. Rahul Bojja, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate, Hyderabad in his address spoke on how the Millennium Developmental Goals (MDGs) set in the year 2000 have helped in reducing IMR, MMR rates, improvement in children’s education, in combating HIV/AIDS.  He expressed that SDG’s will also become a shared goals in improving the life on earth and protecting our planet. He applauded the huge gathering of children from different parts of the city and said it is for the first time he found children so disciplined and attentive to the programme and he was happy to see so many boys and girls attended in this historical event and support this great cause. He passed on the message that education is the means for achieving success in life and to remove human barriers.

Mr. Pradeep, Artist &  T. V. Anchor congratulating the children for the presence and said that the next generation children should not see hunger and poverty in the world.  He encouraged children to spend time on sports and other activities which improve their overall development. He also said that one day one among them sitting in this hall would be PM or CM, IAS or IPS, Actor or Anchor, etc., and this event ACTION 2015 held today should remind them to bring change in the society and work for Equality and fight for Justice to all and above all to protect the plant by taking care of the planets.

At the conclusion of the programme 1000 children and adults from different schools and NGOS from city along with ACTION 2015 coalition CSO partners lighted the torch to mark declaration of Sustainable Developmental Goals on 25th September 2015. The hall was lit with torches and great to see like stars in the sky. It was nice to see in such happy atmosphere children put on the torches and assuring to each one we march forward to live and put into practice SDGs.

The programme was jointly organised 12 NGOs, namely, Save the Children, World Vision, Dalit Bahujan Shramik Union (DBSU), PARA, Action Aid, Dalit Bahujan Resource Center (DBRC), People’s Monitoring Committee (PMC), COVA network, Amanvedika, National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) Bosco Seva Kendra (BSK), Don Bosco Navajeevan. The programme was concluded with a dance performance by Don Bosco Navajeevan Boys and followed by distribution of Snacks.

On the same day Don Bosco Navajeevan also organized candle lit programme in three of our homes, namely, Don Bosco Navajeevan, New Bhoiguda, Don Bosco Rehabilitation Centre, Ramanthapur, Don Bosco Navajeevan Bala Bhavan, Nampally. There were about 230 children took part in the programme. On 22nd September 2015 our staff also organized a programme at Government school, New Bhoiguda in which there were about 150 students and school staff took part in it.
